Social spam
I'm starting to wonder how long this Facebook apps boom can really last.

Don't get me wrong: I do believe that opening Facebook up has been the greatest thing since sliced bread, but the way most these little applications are abusing Facebook's ability to access (uh... spam) a contact list is starting get in the way.

Every day I receive several messages from contacts inviting to do stuff on Facebook. Too bad that in order to understand what these friends are asking me to do I have to:

  1. accept to install an application and allow it to access my friends list
  2. usually spam more friends just to finish the install process
There's no way to have a preview of what the application is really about. Actually I don't see why I should install it: couldn't I be able just to do whatever activity I would be supposed to do on my friends' pages and THEN decide if I want to add it to my own page? If I want to vote, compare, gift or do anything on a friends' page, why do I have to install the application on MY page?

So while I do understand the viral dynamics of the current approach, I don't think that it's going to last for long. I'm not giving up anonymous spam in my mailbox just to get spammed by my friends on Facebook.
