Apple immigrants

With all the recent hype about Apple switch campaign I have started noticing a group of users that could be defined Apple Immigrants.

At almost all times people from all over the world immigrated to other countries to start a new life, better than the one they had in their home country.

Also if many of them succeeded, some never really felt at home in their new countries, they learned the new language, but never as well as their native one, they learned uses and traditions, but still felt like they did fully belong there.

After some time their home country developed, solved its problems and got to the level of their new country, maybe even surpassed it: but they still remember it the way it was.

I've seen this with Italian US immigrants, getting back in Italy for the first time after many years bringing stuff such as toilet paper or food. They simply did not realized what has been going on lately.

They don't even speak the language anymore: their Italian is filled up with English words (and usually their English has an heavy Italian accent).

At the end of the last century many Mac users immigrated.

It was the System 8 / Ameilio era, and life was really miserable as a Mac user and, even more, as a Mac developer.

These people were true Mac nerds, but for some reason switching to Windows they didn't become Windows nerds but simply Windows users. At some time something was not working but, well, they didn't care.

Now, after a few years they are still stuck in Windows world, they are not true Windows pros, but at the same time Apple has moved to MacOS X, so they are not Mac nerds anymore.

Some of them are considering to move back, but it would be more correct to say switch again than back, since it's a totally new environment.

Others don't want to switch again, but also not to upgrade to XP, so they are stuck with Win2k.

I'm not saying that switching back then was wrong, to the contrary, it probably was the right coiche, but I believe that at the moment Apple has been making some good coiches, and MacOS X is a very good environment, so, maybe it's time to get back home .
