Our first Radio UserLand tools, RssDistiller and ThemeTool (ThemeTool is the tool fromerly known as RemoteEdit), have reached version 1.0, you can download them now at http://radiotools.evectors.it/.
But this time we are trying to sell them.
In the last days we have set up a new e-commerce site. We used IdeaTools to create a site that would allow people to buy licenses for the tools that we have developed so far for Radio UserLand and for the ones that we have not released yet. The framework is also ready to manage tools developed by other developers.
You can visit our new store at http://store.evectors.com/
It all began with our xml-rpc.it registration service, a service already in use by some Radio developers, now we have linked an e-commerce site to the system, via XML-RPC, of course.
We have chosen to use the same strategy that UserLand applies to Radio: you can download our tools and use them without limitations for 30 days, then you have to buy a license to keep using the tool. The license also gives you free updates for one year.
More than a real business this is an experiment: we've had great feed-back from users downloading our tools, it took a while to fix all the bugs that we have been notified (and, of course, we will need more time to fix the ones that nobody has notified yet ), we also tried to provide the best customer care we could.
I think that we, and these tools, are now ready for prime time.
At least as far as I know nobody in this growing community has tried to sell tools yet, this is why I call this an experiment. I will like very much to receive suggestions and advice on how you, as real or potential customers, would prefer to get these services.
During this experiment I'll write about how's going on this weblog, so if you are interested on the results, stay tuned. |
