Paolo's Weblog.

 Domenica, 31 marzo 2002

Almost as soon as I opened this weblog, I started tracking it on Google. Since I had been linked from some high traffic blogs, looking for "Paolo Valdemarin" soon gave this site as the first result. Not only, I also tried searching for "Paolo", and my position was pretty good, between 50th and 60th.

Today this site has simply disappeared from Google.

Now, not that I'm complaining or anything, but how can this happen?

More than 90% of all referrals from search engines on sites hosted on our server belong to Google or Google Powered searches. More and more people rely on Google not only for their searches, but almost as a bookmarks' replacement, I do this myself.

Having been removed from Google makes this site unavailable for a lot of people, and this is something I cannot control at all.

I feel like a character in one of those movies, removed from all public records and becoming invisible.

But worst of all, is that I don't know why has this happened. Did I trigger some obscure mechanism looking too many times for my name from the same IP address? Is there any other system that Google uses to prevent tampering with their records? I don't think that somebody from Google saw my note on Ego Surfing below and removed this site from the records (just in the case this happened: I'm deeply sorry, I didn't want to do anything wrong, please, put me back! :-).

Happy Easter

I thought that the fact that dates in Radio weblogs were written using the OS language (while the calendar is always in English) was a bug. Now I understand that it really is a feature: most weblogs are mainly written in English, but the dates still give you the idea that you are reading something written in France, Italy, Germany, US, etc. Sorry about the UK...

Introducing: the OPML Easter Egg. Am I pushing this too far? Yeah, probably.
Somebody asked if he could use my OPML espresso image. Of course you can. It's available in small, medium and large sizes.
Ego surfing: I'm the 59th Paolo on Google.

PS: just dropped to 67. :-|

Intranet Services at Evectors. A brief description on how we manage internal communication in our company and what we are proposing to our customers.
Monday is the fifth anniversary of Scripting News, and the fourteenth of Frontier. It wouldn't surprise me if there are some Radio users who were born after the the code that's running their blog, not that that actually means anything.  [Scripting News]

I remember meeting Dave, presenting Frontier, for the first time in Palo Alto. Was that 14 years ago? Probably. Today I found in my closet a Cricket Present T-Shirt, and I was wondering how old it was. Does anybody remember about Cricket Software?

Second day of this blog, but I've been too busy to write anything. I actually wrote quite a lot, in my k.log, in my two instant outlines, in 4 IM services, on my Intranet, on my site... all this on 3 different computers!

Cool new audio technology wonder if it really works...

Tommy Williams: "Like most teams inside Microsoft, we have a SharePoint site set up to share information. Everyone in the team can post to the site. There are lists, calendars, and even discussion groups."  [Scripting News]

Using Frontier and IdeaTools as an Intranet application, you can have lists, calendar, discussion groups, publishing, directories, aggregators too. And you can also run RCS on the same server.

Spreading the word about instant outliners around the company. 5 users so far. Somebody is wondering what is this all about. Simple: it's instant!
Added the OPML link, with an Italian twist (we drink espresso!).

John Robb asked for a pointer to an ad that we run yesterday on an Italian newspaper. The best place to put it was on my weblog, but I had no public weblog (the ones that I have are on our private LAN). So I was forced to finally create my public weblog from a category .
